Pavel Černoch Returns as the Prince in Dvořák's Rusalka in Munich

Czech tenor Pavel Černoch will once again take on the role of the Prince in Dvořák's Rusalka, this time at the Munich Opera Festival. He will appear in two festival performances at the Bavarian State Opera on 23 and 25 July 2026 under the baton of Petr Popelka, who is set to become the company's new General Music Director from the 2029/30 season.

Pavel Černoch will perform in the acclaimed production by renowned Austrian director Martin Kušej. The title role of Rusalka will be sung by Swedish soprano Malin Byström, while the cast also includes Jamie Barton, Christof Fischesser, and Elena Guseva.

"Munich holds a very special place in my professional life. I always return to the Bavarian State Opera with great pleasure—it is a theatre where I truly feel at home and where I have had the opportunity to create many wonderful roles," says Pavel Černoch.

The Prince is one of the signature roles in Černoch's repertoire and has accompanied him to many of the world's leading opera houses. Most recently, in June, he enjoyed considerable success in a concert performance of Rusalka with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. In its review, The Times praised the strength of his interpretation, highlighting that he sang the final duet "with tremendous passion."

The Munich Opera Festival is one of the highlights of the European opera season, presenting each year a selection of the Bavarian State Opera's most outstanding productions, featuring many of the world's leading singers, conductors, and directors.

Czech audiences will next have the opportunity to hear Pavel Černoch on 8 August at the closing Gala Concert of the International Music Festival Český Krumlov. Joining soprano Danielle de Niese and mezzo-soprano Ester Pavlů, he will perform a selection of beloved arias and duets by Verdi and Puccini.
